Any thoughts 💭 ?

Hi Rob. I have just read your article about eliptic curves and if it’s possible to recover keys, etc. I’m not a mathematician or a cryptographer I’m not even into Bitcoin but I like to read about what’s new in this world and what we’re about to face. Long story short I’m the guy who likes to stay informed.

The reason I’m texting you: about two months ago, a guy approached me saying he’s a physician, mathematician and cryptographer. He showed me his works, and he genuinely sounds like a person who he says he is. The reason he approached me is that he has lost 1/3 of a private key for a bitcoin wallet from 2010. He showed me the wallet with a certain amount of btc on it. Meaning he still has 2/3 of a private key. What he asks from me obviously is that I need to make an investment to buy around 25 5090gpus so he can compute and recover the lost part of the private key. Either buy or rent the same force, maybe even bigger force on cloud.

He metioned eliptic curve and explained it to me. I did my own research asking AI if what he says is actually possible. But I’m getting strange answer. Which is if he still has 2/3 of the key and if the missing part is the middle part. It doesn’t require that much of a computational force. So I’m not certain if he’s story is real or not.

What do you think ? Have you ever heard of anything like this?

Don’t take this as if I’m gonna take your answer as a green light or a red light. I’m just doing my part of research to find out what I’m dealing with.
