Samsung brings USDC transfers to 82 million Galaxy phones

Samsung is moving ahead with its stablecoin plans, confirming that USDC transfers will launch directly inside Samsung Wallet for eligible Galaxy devices in the United States later this month.

The feature will roll out in the last week of October across approximately 82 million U.S. Galaxy devices compatible with Samsung Wallet. USDC will be the first supported stablecoin.

Users will be able to send USDC to compatible crypto wallets internationally, with Samsung charging no transfer fee, although third-party wallets or exchanges may impose their own charges.

Samsung Wallet will also support transfers to eligible bank accounts in more than 60 countries, allowing recipients to receive funds in local currency. Fees for bank-account transfers will vary depending on the destination and transaction amount.

Back in August, Samsung was preparing to integrate stablecoins into Samsung Wallet, although key details — including the launch timeline, supported asset and underlying blockchain infrastructure — had yet to be confirmed.

The latest announcement fills in those gaps. USDC will be the first supported stablecoin, while Bastion will provide the stablecoin infrastructure and custody framework. Coinbase will act as Bastion’s sub-custodian through Coinbase Prime, with Solana and Sui among the blockchain technology partners supporting the service.

Those details are now clearer.

Bastion, a regulated stablecoin infrastructure and custody provider, will operate the stablecoin accounts and cross-border payment framework. Coinbase will act as Bastion’s sub-custodian, with USDC held through Coinbase Prime. Samsung also named Solana and Sui among the technology partners providing blockchain infrastructure.

The service is designed to remove some of the friction traditionally associated with crypto payments. Eligible users will not need to install a separate wallet or manage their own private keys, while biometric authentication will be required to initiate transfers.

Samsung said future functionality could include paying with stablecoins online or by tapping a Galaxy device at physical stores.

The rollout turns Samsung’s earlier stablecoin ambitions into a consumer product with a defined launch date and distribution base, potentially putting blockchain-based dollar transfers inside a wallet already used for everyday payments and credentials.
