The early morning gains came on the heels of Tuesday evening’s successful deployment of 24 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. This mission represented the firm’s 51st launch from the West Coast facility during the current calendar year.

The Starlink satellite network continues to serve as SpaceX’s primary revenue driver, generating nearly 70% of overall company income. During the second quarter of 2026 alone, this division produced $4.29 billion in revenue.

Second Quarter Results Surpass Projections

SpaceX disclosed Q2 revenue totaling $7.81 billion, representing a 91.9% jump compared to the same period last year. The firm recorded a per-share loss of $0.09, which came in $0.17 better than the analyst consensus estimate calling for a $0.26 loss.

Capital investments remained substantial during the quarter, reaching $15.8 billion. These expenditures supported orbital data infrastructure development and artificial intelligence operations expansion. Both the AI compute segment and Starship hardware division recorded operating losses during the period.

While revenue figures impressed, SPCX shares have experienced volatility since peaking at $201.80 on June 16. The stock had declined over 30% from that high heading into the initial insider lockup expiration. However, the anticipated selloff failed to materialize.

Critical Lockup Expiration Approaching

The subsequent lockup window concludes on August 20, with share restrictions lifting on August 21. This event could potentially release approximately $42.5 billion in stock value for trading. Market participants are monitoring this development carefully and repositioning accordingly.

Elon Musk has stated that SpaceX’s artificial intelligence revenue will “definitely” surpass all other income streams next month. Morgan Stanley has maintained its $300 base price target alongside a bullish $600 scenario, emphasizing AI growth potential.

Hyperion Asset Management acquired 1,177,203 SPCX shares during Q2, representing roughly $201.1 million in value. This position now constitutes SpaceX as 5.3% of the fund’s total portfolio and ranks as its eighth-largest holding.

Additional institutional investors established positions during the second quarter, including Dynamic Advisor Solutions with a $3.38 million stake and KERR Financial Planning with $566,000 in holdings.

Wall Street analyst sentiment leans positive overall. The consensus recommendation stands at “Moderate Buy” with a mean price target of $229. Notably, Raymond James downgraded its rating from strong buy to strong sell last Friday, while Seaport Research Partners shifted from buy to neutral on the same date.

Argus Research raised SpaceX from hold to buy on August 7, establishing a $160 price objective. Daiwa Securities initiated coverage in July with a neutral stance and $175 target price.

Norway’s sovereign wealth fund has also revealed a SpaceX position, joining the growing roster of institutional stakeholders accumulating shares.

The equity’s 50-day moving average currently stands at $143.01. Its 52-week trading range extends from $104.83 on the low end to $225.64 at the peak.
